This is Celtic-influenced fantasy literature which influenced H.P. Lovecraft (see his Dreamlands-cycle) and--maybe even more obviously-- J.R.R. Tolkien (see "The Hobbit Or There and Back Again", which reads like a string of Dunsany-stories strung together as episodes in a single tale). A real fantasy classic.
